Quinn’s Training Services Limited offers this theoretical and practical EUSR course which provides both management and operatives with the essential knowledge and understanding of the safe use, fitting and maintenance of abrasive wheels and machinery in line with current legislation, preventing serious incidents and injury in the future.

QTS can make the practical part of the course bespoke to your company needs, allowing candidates to become registered for a maximum of TWO of the following categories: petrol cut off saw, petrol floor saw, electrical/ battery angle grinders and electrical/ battery cut off saw.

The course has a maximum of 6 delegates. 

Aims & Objectives

By the end of this programme, the individual should:

• Be able to carry out manufacturer’s pre-use checks, mount the abrasive wheel and use abrasive cutting and grinding equipment in a proficient manner in accordance with relevant health, safety and environmental requirements and company procedure.
• Demonstrate a safety conscious approach to the control of hazards associated with the activity whilst working and communicating effectively with customers/ third parties and other team members to achieve tasks.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

1) Understand their and their employer’s responsibilities regarding health, safety and environment regulations

2) Know the roles and responsibilities of both the employer and employee relating to the use of portable cutting and grinding equipment

3) Know and use suitable PPE relating to abrasive wheels

4) Understand the British and European Marking System of abrasive wheels

5)  Demonstrate the correct methods for inspecting and testing abrasive wheels for damage

6) Identify various types of abrasive wheels, their features, their associated environmental and health risks how to reduce these risks

7) Describe the main component parts of abrasive wheels and their functions

8) Describe the different methods of storing, handling and transporting abrasive wheels safely

9) Understand and demonstrate ring testing

10) Demonstrate proper selection and use of portable cutting and grinding equipment 

11) Demonstrate the truing and dressing of an abrasive wheel. 

12) Demonstrate the competence in mounting and securing an abrasive wheel, including the adjustment of work rests and guards

Mode for Delivery

The course is divided into two parts: classroom-based theory and practical activities. It is delivered by one of our fully qualified tutors, who use a variety of theoretical and practical input, including group exercises, discussions, interactive PowerPoint and practical demonstrations.

Examination: Assessment is divided into two parts. Each candidate will complete a short, 30-minute written exam at the end of the course, as well as a 45-minute practical assessment where they must demonstrate skills learned on the course.

• The practical demonstrations and exercises in this course give the candidates the opportunity to attempt the procedures in a supportive environment. This leads to greater confidence when required to use these skills in their own workplace.
• EUSR Approval means that the qualification can be added to a delegates EUSR card. 

Onsite Delivery Requirements

A classroom environment with a table and chair for each delegate, power, a clear wall or screen for presenting and suitable welfare facilities. This course also requires an area free from hazards and a suitable size for practical training, demonstrations, and assessments. All practical facilities must be maintained and inspected in accordance with legislation and must be demarcated with barriers and clearly signed.

Companies must provide the following equipment: 

• Full PPE to be worn by each delegate, including suitable respiratory masks at a minimum of FFP 3, impact grade eye protection, ear defenders, work boots, gloves and hi -viz.
• Material to cut.
• Equipment delegates will be trained to use (petrol driven equipment or electrical/ battery operated equipment along with water/ dust suppression equipment
• Suitable jig to hold cutting material in place.

Prerequisites

There are no formal pre-requisites for this course, however delegates do need to be face-fitted and clean shaven for this course with a certificate for face-fit.

This qualification is essential for any individual, at any level of the company, who is involved in abrasive wheels activities.
