Description

This competence-based qualification covers the underpinning knowledge and practical skills required to act as part of a construction team on the gas network constructions. 

The qualification covers the technical network construction skills required for a network construction assistant or operative, including health, safety and hygiene, and also includes requirements relating to working effectively within the team. 

Aims & Objectives

The objectives of the course are as follows: 

  • Assist in locating and avoiding supply apparatus and sub-structures
  • Working under supervision, excavate holes and trenches in ground and pavement structures
  • Working under supervision, contribute to an efficient and effective work environment
  • Working under supervision contribute to health, safety and environment in the workplace, including hygiene
  • Working under supervision, operate powered tools and equipment for network construction operations
  • Working under supervision, assemble components to meet specifications for gas network construction operations

Also a choice of two optional objectives

  • Either -Assist in preparing resources and signing, lighting and guarding the area for highway works
  • Or – Assist in preparing resources and signing, lighting and guarding the area for site works

Assessment

The aims and objectives will be assessed by MCQ knowledge tests and practical assessments undertaken on a live work site. 

Intended For

This qualification is based on national occupational standards and may be used to provide recognition of competence for existing staff or for the development of new starters. 

Prerequisites

As there is a requirement for learners to provide evidence from workplace activities, the learner must be working as part of a team undertaking gas network construction activities.  

Learners must be 16 years of age of above. 

Mode for Delivery

This course consists of five days of classroom-based learning and one day of on-site practical assessment.
