Quinns Training Services is happy to announce the installation of a Touch Screen Test Centre at their head office in Pentwyn, Cardiff. The tests are licensed and administered through our training partners at the Independent Training and Testing Company – a CITB Internet Test Centre- to offer our customers three CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) Touchscreen Tests for either Operatives, Managers and Professionals (MAP) or Specialists.
Quinn’s Training Services’ partnership with ITTCO provides delegates with support throughout booking, making the testing process as simple and as stress free as possible.

QTS also offers a One Stop Shop day allowing delegates to gain both a health and safety qualification (CITB HSA or IOSH SHECW) and the operatives touch screen test – both of which are required for the application of a Labourer (Green) CSCS card. For more information, please see here:

The tests are a pre-requisite to obtain many Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Cards which are a widely recognized certification program that ensures workers in the construction industry are trained and competent in health and safety practices. One of the tools used for testing individuals’ knowledge of health and safety is the CITB touch screen tests.
These tests assess a candidate’s understanding of various safety protocols, rules, and procedures relevant to construction sites. There are several different types of touch screen health and safety tests, each designed for different roles within the construction industry. Let’s take a closer look at them.
Operatives Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Test
The Operatives HSE Test is one of the most common touch screen tests and is required for individuals who wish to apply for CSCS cards such as the Labourer (Green) card, Trainee (Red) card, Apprentice card, most Blue Skilled Worker cards and most Gold Advanced Craft cards. It’s designed to ensure that workers understand basic health and safety principles and how they apply to construction sites. This test is essential for entry-level construction workers, as well as those seeking to renew or upgrade their cards.
Topics Covered:
- General site safety
- Correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Identification of hazards and risks
- Safe manual handling practices
- Site-specific emergency procedures
The Operatives HSE test is a touch-screen exam with multiple-choice questions. To pass, candidates need to have enough knowledge of basic safety measures in construction environments.
Managers & Professionals Test
The Managers & Professionals Test is designed for senior professionals, such as site managers, project managers, and safety officers. It focuses on the responsibilities of those in charge of managing larger teams. Ensuring the overall safety and success of construction projects. Who may wish to apply for a Black Managers card, and the Academically or Professionally Qualified person cards.
The CITB Managers and Professionals (MAP) test has been designed to allow delegates to show knowledge across the following key areas;
- Legal and management
- Occupational health, wellbeing and welfare
- General Safety
- High risk activities
- Environment
This test is typically more advanced, as it requires a deeper understanding of construction safety at the organizational level.
Specialist Tests
In addition to the general HSE and Manager & Professional tests, CITB also offers a variety of specialist touch screen health and safety tests. These are for individuals working in specific roles within the construction industry. Who may wish to apply for the Gold Supervisor card, Blue Skilled Worker card or Gold Advanced Craft card in certain occupations. The specialist tests can be taken in the following topics:
- supervisory (SUP)
- demolition (DEM)
- plumbing (JIB) (PLUM)
- highway works (HIW)
- specialist work at height (WAH)
- lifts and escalators (LAEE)
- tunnelling (TUNN)
- HVACR – heating and plumbing services (HAPS)
- HVACR – pipefitting and welding (PFW)
- HVACR – ductwork (DUCT)
- HVACR – refrigeration and air conditioning (RAAC)
- HVACR – services and facilities management (SAF)
Topics Covered:
- Working environment
- Occupational health
- Safety
- High risk activities
- Specialist
Specialist tests allow candidates to show expertise in their particular field of work, ensuring they have the necessary knowledge to handle the unique challenges their roles present.
Online Practice and Mock Tests
Although not an official CSCS certification, there are many online practice and mock tests available to help individuals prepare for their touch screen exams. These tests simulate the real exam experience and provide valuable insight into what to expect.
Features:
- Full-length practice exams
- Immediate feedback and explanations for each question
- Multiple-choice questions similar to the real CSCS tests
- An opportunity to familiarize yourself with the touch screen interface and the types of questions
Taking these practice tests is an excellent way for candidates to feel confident and prepared before taking the official CSCS test.
CITB also publishes a GT100 publication (£12 per person at time of writing) which can be purchased at a number of outlets and provides all the test content, including questions and answers, for comprehensive test preparation. It is available as a physical book or as a digital download.
Additionally, a smartphone app offers test simulations, allowing candidates to practice under timed conditions and identify areas for further study. The app is available in 14 languages with voiceover options.
